The effects of placental insufficiency on the fetal lung.

چکیده
Any discussion of this subject 10 to 15 years ago would of necessity have been limited to morbid anatomical concepts with descriptions mainly of inhaled amniotic debris and the possible prenatal origin of hyaline membrane disease (HMD). With the advances in knowledge of fetal pulmonary physiology, the production and absorption of lung liquid, surfactant synthetic pathways and fetal breathing movements, we are now in a position to consider the possible effects of placental insufficiency in terms of altered fetal pulmonary physiology. In this paper I propose to consider how placental insufficiency may impinge on the functional activities of the developing lung and how this may affect adaptation to extrauterine respiration. I intend to be thoroughly provocative and to use available evidence to construct a tenuous hypothesis of my own on the mechanisms responsible for normal control of fetal lung growth and the triggering of biochemical lung maturation.

I-46: Obstetrical Doppler
Accurate assessment of gestational age, fetal growth, and the detection of fetal and placental abnormalities are major benefits of sonography. Color Doppler can be used to assist in the identification of vascular architecture, detection of vascular pathology and visualization of blood flow changes associated with physiologic processes and disease states. The clinical applications of obstetrical...
متن کاملThe impact of COVID-19 during pregnancy on fetal brain development
The development of the brain as the most complex structure of the human body is a long process that begins in the third week of pregnancy and continues until adulthood and even until the end of life (1). Human brain myelination begins one to two months before birth in the visual system and eventually lasts until the age of two in other sensory systems and then the motor systems (4). Processes a...
متن کاملEffect of Aspirin Consumption during Pregnancy on Fetal and Placental Weights and Histomorphometric Changes of the Fetal Stomach in Rats
Background & Objective: Due to the relevant use of aspirin to relieve pain and common symptoms of gastric ulcer and possible malicious effects on fetus, this study investigates the histomorphologic effects of aspirin on the stomach tissue in rat embryos. Materials & Methods: In this experimental study, 30 pregnant female rats were randomly divided into six groups including control group wi...
متن کاملChanges in surfactant-associated protein mRNA profile in growth-restricted fetal sheep.
To test the hypothesis that chronic placental insufficiency resulting in fetal growth restriction causes an increase in fetal lung surfactant-associated protein (SP) gene expression, we embolized chronically catheterized fetal sheep ( n = 6) daily using nonradioactive microspheres in the abdominal aorta for 21 days (between 0.74 and 0.88 of gestation) until fetal arterial oxygen content was red...
متن کاملP-122: Morphine Effects on Placental Layers in Wistar Rats
Background: Experiments have shown that opioid drugs abuse during pregnancy can cause a delay in the development of the placenta. In mammals, the placenta is the most important channel for the exchange of Materialss between the maternal and fetal bloods. The present study investigates the time-dependent effect of the addiction duration of maternal morphine consumption during pregnancy. Material...
